帕蒂·史密斯 has lived a fascinating and creative life. She’s performed as a singer/songwriter since the 1970s, 每十年都以表演和创作前沿专辑来点缀, 最终,他重新开始写诗集,并投身于环保和政治问题的行动主义, once calling for the impeachment of President George W. 布什.

Patti and Robert Meet in 1967

In 1967, during the so-called Summer of Love, Smith met controversial photographer

Smith’s creative career began in 1967, when Smith began writing poetry, 绘画, acting in plays and doing performance art. One day Smith would become known as the Godmother of Punk.

A keen lover of poetry, Smith’s favorite book of verse is 兰波的 灯饰. When Smith went to France in 1973, 她参观了Charleville, home of both the Rimbaud museum and his gravesite.

1975年,史密斯成立了帕蒂·史密斯组合,并发行了她的第一张专辑, , a fusion of punk rock and poetry recitations. In spite of being raised as a Catholic, her famous line in those days was, “Jesus died for somebody’s sins but not mine.”

Elaborating on this statement in 只是孩子, 史密斯写道, 这句话是我几年前写的,是为了宣告自己的存在, as a vow to take responsibility for my own actions.

帕蒂·史密斯 has produced numerous studio albums and performed widely, though she often disappears from the limelight for years at a time. Smith has received seemingly unending accolades and awards, including induction into the 岩石 and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007. Smith was also the subject of a documentary in 2008 entitled,

1946年出生的, the same year as 帕蒂·史密斯, 罗伯特·梅普索普在纽约长大,就读于布鲁克林的普拉特学院, where he hoped to attain a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, though he dropped out in 1969 before attaining it.

In the late 1960s, Mapplethorpe began taking photographs with a 宝丽来相机, eventually amassing a collection of over 1500. Many of these photos featured

Highlighting this legal fray, in 1990 the A jury trial later acquitted the defendants.

有趣的是, in 2006 Mapplethorpe's photo of Andy Warhol sold for over $600,000, making it one of the most expensive photos ever sold.

罗伯特·梅普尔索普 died of complications from AIDS in 1989, age 42.

Most of Patti’s Smith book covers the time period from 1967 to 1974, 当时她和梅普尔索普大部分时间都住在一起,他们的关系有各种各样的友好和/或浪漫,有时还会发生性关系, though there’s little sex in the book, so exactly what Patti and Robert did together can only be implied.

在书中, 帕蒂从未承认试图阻止罗伯特的浪漫和/或性倾向, even when he went “hustling” to make extra money.

To show the world what I could do

World spins some photographs

How I love to laugh when the crowd laughs

And I turn in and I realize I’m alone

A budding photographer by this time, Mapplethorpe wanted to pick Warhol’s brain, as Andy had a tremendous interest in photography and moviemaking, but this joining of minds never happened. Since Warhol had been shot and nearly died in 1968,

在其他场所, 史密斯和梅普尔索普与垮掉派诗人格里高利·科索和艾伦·金斯伯格有过交流, 谁, 当他第一次见到帕蒂时, thought she was a very pretty boy and tried to pick her up.

那时候纽约另一个非常有趣的地方是切尔西酒店, 一个古怪, 老化, elegant place frequented by artists of all sorts.

史密斯通过在书店工作、在跳蚤市场和二手店淘珍本书籍赚钱, which she’d buy and then sell for a nice profit.

史密斯和梅普尔索普住在旅馆里时遇到了许多有趣的人, including fashion designer and actor Bruce Rudow, 艺术家沙戴利, musician Mathew Reich and composer George Kleinsinger.

About living at the Chelsea Hotel, 史密斯写道, “Life at the Chelsea was an open market, everyone with something of himself to sell.” And about the building itself, 她写, “The Chelsea was like a doll’s house in the Twilight Zone, 有一百个房间, 每个都是小宇宙.”

It broke Patti’s heart when she finally had to move out.

但似乎可以肯定的是,帕蒂·史密斯将永远喜欢她的潇洒, 艺术的人, with 谁m she shared numerous insights, many special moments and undying respect and love. 只是孩子 is a memoir for everyone to enjoy.
